Minutes of Meetings
Over the course of the five days all participants discussed issues related to HIV in a free and open manner. They did so regardless of their gender, age, where they were from or whether they were a person living with HIV or a scholar. They did so with consistent mutual respect and a strong sense of equality. Consequently, the discussions were of unusual depth and reflected the unusually wide range of backgrounds and fields of experience and expertise of the participants.
The discussions covered six broad themes:
- Stigma and discrimination
- Rights and obligations
- Gender dimensions
- Awareness and prevention
- Protection, treatment, care and support
- Particularly vulnerable groups
Small working groups looked at case studies that covered different dimensions within each of the themes. As an example: when discussing the broad theme of ‘particularly vulnerable groups’ different working groups focused on care givers, street children, mobile populations, displaced people, sex workers, injecting drug users, trafficked persons, and males having sex with males.
All working group discussions were digitally recorded, and attended by a minute taker. You will find the minutes of each of these meetings below.
The results of these discussions will be used to produce specialised manuals and training materials, and will help the participants to formulate recommendations to Muslim governments.
